Cheshire Homes International was founded in England by Group Captain Leonard Cheshire in 1947. He originally opened his own home to persons requiring support after witnessing the devastation of the bombing of Nagasaki in 1945. Today there are over 200 Cheshire affiliate projects, providing support to people living with a physical disability in more than 50 countries.
Cheshire Supports to Independent Living Inc. is a charitable, non-profit organization with a volunteer Board of Directors (Charitable Donation No.87027 8249 RR 0001). Funding for the attendant care service is provided by the Ministry of Health Long -Term Care.
Cheshire Homes (Hastings – Prince Edward) Inc. opened its doors in 1973 as a provider of supportive housing in Belleville, Ontario. In October 1986, Cheshire became the sponsor agency for Outreach attendant services, providing personal support to adults living with a physical disability in their own home.
Provincially, Cheshire is associated with the Ontario Community Support Association and the Ontario Association of Independent Living Service Providers. Cheshire is also an active community partner and we are proud of our associations with other community agencies and of our accomplishments and credibility within Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
